Joint Committee of Faculty & Students (University Committee)

Committee Description

The Joint Committee of Faculty and Students was created as an instrument of two policy-formulating bodies, the Faculty Senate and the Student Association. The Joint Committee has a student Co-Chair and a faculty Co-Chair.

The general charge to the Committee is to: 1) facilitate efforts to improve student-faculty relations; 2) encourage student recommendations in all areas of Faculty Senate policy- formulation which affect student life; 3) recommend changes to "The Guide to Student Rights and Responsibilities."

The Committee exercises specific advisory powers in matters that the Committee may decide are important to the University community. It makes its recommendations in the form of resolutions conveyed to the Faculty Senate, the Student Association, the Senior Vice President for Student and Academic Support Services, the President, or any other appropriate body.

The Committee serves both the Faculty Senate and the Student Association by studying any matters or resolutions referred to it by either group.  With respect to such matters or resolutions it makes recommendations and reports to the Faculty Senate in accordance with its bylaws and relevant provisions of the Faculty Organization Plan.  It makes recommendations and reports to the Student Association in accordance with its Constitution and Bylaws.

Please direct questions about faculty service on this committee to the 2022-2023 faculty Co-Chair of the Committee, Ariadna Pichs.
