Senate Standing Committee on Appointments, Salary, and Promotion Policies (Including Fringe Benefits)

Committee Description/Mission

The responsibility of the Appointments, Salary, and Promotion Policies (including fringe benefits) Committee is clearly set forth in its title.

The Committee concerns itself with all matters relating to full and part-time faculty appointments: appointments of administrative officers with academic responsibilities, professorships, chairs, etc. Such matters may include criteria for selection, procedures, basic philosophy, necessity for policy changes, and investigation and comparison of practices to those of other institutions.

Matters of faculty salary, including salary levels, comparison of salary structures to those at other institutions; issues of regular and special increases; compensation of departmental chairs and salaries of women and minorities are also considered by this Committee.

Issues of promotion for full and part-time faculty, on and off campus, and promotion policies and practices with regard to women and minorities include additional concerns.

Benefits, including medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, education, leave for fiscal year employees, and related benefits, such as parking, are also in the purview of the Committee's responsibility.

Matters are assigned to the Committee by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate. Items are also initiated by Committee members and colleagues throughout the University.
