Dispute Resolution Committee (University Committee)

Committee Description

Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) members serve terms of 3 years, with 3 staggered terms of 5 committee members each for a total of 15 committee members each year.

The time commitment is not great and depends on how many grievances are received. Preferably, parties will be able to resolve their grievances via mediation so that a formal hearing is not required. If mediation is not successful, a DRC hearing is held; this requires three committee members. If placed on a hearing panel, committee members review the grievance materials, conduct a hearing (typically only a few hours), and draft a decision. Finally, if a hearing panel decision is appealed, all members on the committee except the three hearing panel members will hear the appeal.
